Big money, phony "wedge issues," voter suppression and empty posturing dominate every Republican "success." Although this administration will almost certainly win re-election, its weakness has been one of centrism, not leftism. We should have single payer medicine, a reversal of the Bush tax cuts, and a return to the 70% marginal rate of the 1950's, the period of the country's greatest growth.
The stay at home Democrats in 2010 have a lot of blame to take themselves because 2010 not only gave the Republicans the House, but gave them control of redistricting in many states.
Republicans have introduced new voter ID laws in many states hampering certain normally Democratic constituencies in their exercise of the right to vote. Finally, there are just too many people who vote Republican in defiance of their own interests. When middle class white Americans as well as some middle class minorities must choose to identify with either thr rich or the or, they choose the rich. They share the propaganda of the rich as to stereotypes of the poor and the unemployed. They believe that benefits to the latter come at their expense. They would rather get a tax break of $10 per week even if it means the rich will get breaks in the thousands per week. Then, there is a whole list of ignoramous views; the Democrats will take our guns away; the Democrats are socialists; Obama is not one of us - and all that garbage. A certain amount of logic and knowledge would demonstrate that we tried the Republican way in the first 8 years of this century and they got us into deep trouble. We know what the Republicans will do, because they have done it.
